A Great First Week!

There were lots of big feelings as our students met their new classmates and teachers, but everyone did such a wonderful job. I snapped a few pictures during my walk-abouts of the school. Outside of these snapshots there was so much learning and community building. You would be so proud of the way your children welcomed each other and showed kindness throughout the week. We are off to a wonderful start.

Here is a shot of kids enjoying our new GaGa pit as well as some reconnecting with old friends.

Mrs. Ribeiro’s class was doing a get-to-know-you game in grade 1 earlier this week.

Mrs. LeDrew was teaching about place value in grade 4/5. One child asked why place value was important. Mrs. LeDrew said, “You are really going to want to pay attention because place value really matters when it comes to your pay cheque.” It provoked such a great discussion filled with rich learning!

We had some hard working JKs and SKs doing some sorting. There also is a few pictures of some JKs and SKs enjoying some of the new toys we received through some additional funding from the board office last year. A huge thanks to Mrs. Cabral, Mrs. Whalen and Mrs. Zammit for collaborating and organizing the purchases in June so they would be ready for September.

Extended Day is already doing some fun art and sharing some positive thoughts. So proud of that group!

Community BBQ…

Remember to Save the Date of Thursday, September 22nd for our BBQ. Staff will be at the BBQ, but they will also need to Eat too :). In order to give all of our staff a meal break and give families with multiple children in different division, we wanted to share the Meal Schedule. Teachers and ECEs will be in their rooms from 5PM to 7PM except for the following times:

5:00 – 5:30 Grade 1, 2 and 3 (Both English and French Immersion)

5:30 – 6:00 Grade 4, 5, and 6

6:00 – 6:30 Grade 7 and 8

6:30 – 7:00 JK and SK Staff

You will see lots of other staff on the yard and get a chance to spend time with other parents and families as well. You might even want to try some GaGa ball that you have been hearing about!

Drop-Off and Pick-Up Reminders…

The new safe walkway for students and families was working well. However, there was a lot of congestion in the back parking lot around pick up time. Please do not double park behind others. If you are running late for pick up, it is better and safer for you to park on the street in the designated areas beyond the new student path, and walk to the school. Another option is to wait a few more minutes if mobility is an issue for you. We have supervision at the end of the day until 3:15PM, so you have plenty of time to park, walk and pick up your children if the back lot is full. Also, for our older students, there is a pick up and drop off option in front of the school. The traffic flows both ways along Avenue Road and you are allowed to stop and drop your children off or pick them up along Avenue Road, just beyond our bus lane. There are signs designating the drop off area. You are in the right place if this is your view of our school yard.
