Key Details for Community BBQ and Open House THIS THURSDAY
WHEN: This Thursday, September 22nd. Staff will be at the BBQ, but they will also need to eat too :). In order to give all of our staff a meal break and give families with multiple children in different divisions, we wanted to share the Meal Schedule. Teachers and ECEs will be in their rooms from 5PM to 7PM except for the following times:
5:00 – 5:30 Grade 1, 2 and 3 (Both English and French Immersion)
5:30 – 6:00 Grade 4, 5, and 6
6:00 – 6:30 Grade 7 and 8
6:30 – 7:00 JK and SK Staff
WHAT will be there to Eat? We will have Burgers and Hotdogs, pop, juice, water and chips for FREE. We have also requested the caterer to bring in additional staff to make sure the line moves faster! We will also have an Ice Cream truck on site that you can purchase delicious dessert from.
WHAT will we be able to do? The teachers will have their classrooms open to visit and meet you. The staff will be circulating so you can connect with them as well as other families. We will have some yard equipment out for some fun as well as play on our new play structure. You might even want to try your hand at Gaga ball now that you have heard so much about it at home :).
There will also be booths set up from our community partners so you can make some connections with valuable services in our neighbourhood. We will also have former graduates supporting our students as they team up to apply fun temporary tattoos to any child that wants one. And if that wasn’t enough… Mrs. Sabumon will be reading stories and hosting activities in our library! Looking forward to all the great fun with our parents, students and their siblings.
HOW Much Will it Cost? The BBQ is FREE, but we are asking you to purchase your ice cream treats if your family feels like dessert. Also, we are hoping to make a big difference in our community by having everyone bring a Non-Perishable food item in for St. Vincent De Paul. It can be anything, but the pantry really benefits from items like Peanut Butter, Pancake mix, Syrup, Cereal and Kraft Dinner.
FREE Pizza Day Next Week on Tuesday, September 27th…
We are changing pizza providers to maximize the value that pizza day fundraising brings to our community. In order for every student to get a chance to try the new pizza, we are going to make sure there is at least 1 piece available for each student. We are going to have extras of both Only Cheese and Turkey Pepperoni & Cheese so each student should have their choice. We will give the additional pizza to our intermediate and junior students after each class has had a choice. You will still need to pack a lunch for snacks and if your child can eat more than one slice, please pack additional food. This is completely FREE because wanted all of our students to be able to sample the pizza before the Cashonline closes for October’s orders. Thank you CSAC! Remember to get your orders completed in Cashonline! If you do NOT want your child to have pizza for any reason, please communicate with your child’s classroom teacher.
CSAC
Community BBQs and Free Pizza Days would NOT be possible without the support of our parents on CSAC. CSAC stands for Catholic School Advisory Council aka Parent Council. They help our community use the fundraising money we raise to improve our school based on the needs that arise. They also share input and provide a voice for parents on things like the parking lot, student dress code or other challenging conversations that matter to our whole community. Whether it is sponsoring a community garden, supporting field trips, organizing community events or sharing thoughts and ideas with the principal, CSAC is open to all parents in the school. If you have any questions about being a part of this awesome group, please reach out to our Chair, Bree Almeida at breealmeida8914@gmail.com . All current members will be in Black T-Shirts with CSAC on the back at our community BBQ. Our first meeting is September 27th at 6PM at the school. After that we will adjust the time, date and format (in person or virtual) to meet the needs of the group. We would love for you to be involved if you are able.
Toonies for Terry
Our annual Terry Fox Run will be happening on Friday, September 30th. More details to follow, but we invite you to donate to this worthy cause when it comes through to your Cash Online. Terry’s Marathon of Hope has resulted in so much life-changing research to be funded. Terry Fox is a Canadian hero and we honour his legacy by carrying on the race he began long ago. Join with us and donate if you are able.
This Week at a Glance:
Monday September 19th
- Provincial Day of Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Since the death of the Queen, there has been much discussion around the world, including here in Ontario, regarding fitting gestures in communities and schools to mark the passing of a Sovereign who has served the Commonwealth, and as Canada’s head of state, for seven decades. At the direction of the Ontario government, we will honour the Queen with a moment of silence at 1:00 pm after lunch recess. In our ongoing attempt to live our mission and be “a place for all” we hold space for both our continued action on Truth and Reconciliation, equity and inclusion, and a dignified recognition of the woman who so selflessly gave to our nation; our Queen.
