A Fantastic Week Last Week!

We held our Student of the month Assembly and awarded 15 students with certificates and T-Shirts! It was awesome to see so many honoured for their excellent work. A special congratulation to Eli Pescod, our Beacon of Hope Award winner that was announced during Catholic Education Week at our BBQ. We also had some fun silly-stringing Mr. King, sliming Mr. Syme and giving Mr. Hunt several pies to the face. A good time had by all!

We also held a brief prayer to mark the raising of the pride flag. Saint Peter and all schools in the WCDSB raised the Pride Flag again. The flag-raising is part of our commitment to creating a nurturing, safe and inclusive learning environment where every student and every member of the community is welcomed, valued, and respected. We stand with ALL in our community and we commit to doing better – each and every day.

Some Welcomes and Some Goodbyes!

We offer a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Van Trigt, who has been promoted to the role of Special Education Liaison. In this role, she will be offering support and guidance to other Special Education teachers and support not just one school, but a Family of Schools. The Senior Leadership of the Special Education team want to ensure Mrs. Van Trigt hits the ground running in September, so she will be shadowing a mentor for her new role throughout the month of June and her last day at Saint Peter will be Tuesday! While we are sad to see her go, we are thrilled the board chose her for the new role. The skill and passion she brings to her work at Saint Peter will benefit so many families in our system. Congratulations Mrs. Van Trigt! We will miss you, but we are so very proud of you!

While the HR process takes place for our new Special Education Teacher, we are grateful to Mrs. Fernandes as she steps in for the month of June. Mrs. Fernandes comes with a wealth of experience as a recently retired Special Education teacher and will keep the ship moving until our new Special Education teacher starts in September.

Lastly, a warm welcome to Mr. Forbes. Congratulations are in order as he has recently been promoted to full-time with the board team and is excited to join the team at Saint Peter as our evening custodian. We are lucky to have such a dedicated member of WCDSB joining our team.

Equity Parent Participation Dinner Tuesday June 6th at 6PM

What is the night about? Equity is about ensuring each one of our students gets what they need in order to be successful. For example, we all need to see but not all of us require glasses. Each child’s needs are different, but we are all responsible for working together to ensure our kids get what they need to have the opportunity to be successful. As parents, you play a special role in ensuring that equity is a priority at our school and we want to ensure that parents have a voice in crafting our commitment to equity. We will explore how we, as parents, can take steps to reduce inequity and ensure positive outcomes for all our kids.

What is the Cost? It is a free event and child care and dinner is provided for parents and kids.

What will we be doing? We will be having table conversations and our discussions that will build the foundation for commitment statements. We will display these statements in the foyer as we enter the building so everyone can feel confident about the excellent experience their child will have at Saint Peter. The statements will articulate the high expectations we can have of our students, staff and families when it comes to making things equitable.

Who is invited to the table? Everyone is invited, but we have been reaching out to some families in advance to ensure we have diverse viewpoints at the table. For example we selected some parents with young children, some with older children. Some single parent households. Some families that are comprised of people of colour. Some families that drop kids off, some that walk to school. Some English stream families, some French Immersion families. Some families that are in extended day etc. etc.. We have been and will continue to reach out to families in advance of the Cash Online sign up option. Those families that receive an invite will not need to register through Cash Online. We wish we could host everyone, but due to the nature of the event we have a limited number of spots available. If you are interested in participating, please Sign Up through Cash Online. There are 10 spots left. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Hunt.

During the heat of the summer no need to use the oven! Each coupon cost $15 and $9 goes to the school.
