Our Final Week Together Defenders…

We have so much to be grateful for as a community. As our year draws to a close and we celebrate our learning and the progress we have made, we are thankful. As a principal new to the Saint Peter community, I truly appreciate the warm welcome that has been extended. The Saint Peter family really feels like home, and I am excited about all that we will accomplish as a community.

Congratulation Alexia! Our Grade 6 Victoria’s Book Prize Winner.

The recipient who is selected for the Book Prize is to be a child who is making our community better, by example, through their:

(i) loving and generous spirit to others;
(ii) sportsmanship and athletic accomplishment;
(iii) academic excellence; and
(iv) good citizenship.

Talent Show Tuesday at 12:30PM! Everyone is welcome.

We hope you are able to join us for the performance. It will start at 12:30PM.

Graduation is Thursday: Important Reminders

Congratulations Parents of Grade 8 students! The Grade 8 Graduation is on Thursday, June 27th. Our Graduation ceremony will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the gym. Please have your graduate at the school no later than 5:15 p.m. To accommodate everyone, we are asking that families try to bring no more than 5 members to ensure enough seating. Following the ceremony, there will be an opportunity to take photos. Parents will then bring their children to the Old Marina Restaurant (1947 McClintock Dr, Cambridge). The graduates will have a buffet dinner and dance that will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The cost of the dinner and dance is $25 per graduate.

Staffing Updates…

The affected teachers informed their classes last week about the changes, but I wanted the opportunity for everyone in the community to hear the news. Mrs. Monteiro will no longer be teaching Grade 7/8. Although she has done an outstanding job in the role and left gigantic shoes to fill, she would like to return to primary. Rather than lose such an incredible educator to another school in the district, we would prefer to see her follow her passions and make a positive impact at Saint Peter CES. More details to follow, but the incoming teacher is a tremendous educator who will make this next year the best yet for that grade 7/8 class.

Also, Mrs. Hall has been appointed to teach grade a primary class at St. Michael’s in Cambridge. Her presence in the community and positive influence on those around her will be missed. She is a fabulous educator and the St. Mike’s community is blessed to have her. Again, the staffing process will be finalized over the summer and we will be able to release the name of the grade 4/5 teacher at that time.

Thank You Principal Brook!

Principal Brook made some very big decisions while she was in charge. She extended both recesses and made sure the school had a D.P.A. Dance Party (Daily Physical Activity). She even observed several classes and asked Mrs. Ullman to support her with some paperwork. I think everyone had a lot of fun for the day!

Safety Reminder: Sunscreen and Hats

Did you know? The sun’s rays are strongest between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Whether it is outdoor breaks, sports activities, outdoor classes or events, it is important to plan for sun protection when the UV Index is three or higher.

Here are some ways to support sun safety:

o Wearing protective clothing to cover skin.
o Wearing a wide-brimmed hat.
o Applying a water-resistant, UVA/UVB sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to uncovered skin.
o Applying lip balm with SPF protection.
o Wearing sunglasses with 100% UV protection.
