Despite the Cold, It Was a Wonderful Week in a Warm Community!

The St. Peter Defenders supported each other during #BellLetsTalk day. Great conversations were had about ending the stigma around talking about mental health. We also had a wonderful confirmation retreat at St. Benedict’s C.S.S. for our Grade 7 Students. Our Junior and Intermediate team met to begin planning the next teacher learning cycle. Based on the data we examined, our focus will be to learn more precise methods to support our students who struggle with challenging multi-step problems. We also had an important Bus Safety Assembly for our whole school earlier in the week. Lots of great learning was happening throughout the building, and teachers were working hard finalizing assessment results as they completed report cards. Lots of excitement and so much to look forward to in the coming month at St. Peter School. Plus, I think several groundhogs said an early Spring was on the way!

Congratulations Grade 7 Confirmandi!

19 Grade 7 St. Peter students took the next step in their faith journey and celebrated Confirmation at St. Patrick’s Church this past Friday evening. Bishop Crosby challenged our students to renew the face of the Earth by taking God’s love in and giving back to their community. It was an inspiring evening and a real celebration of our grade 7 students. Thank you to all families who attended and made efforts to make the evening special for the grade 7 students at St. Peter School.

Also, we received some feedback regarding busing for the Confirmation Retreat. Thank you for sharing your concerns about picking up at St. Benedict’s, especially in a time of the year filled with inclement weather. It seems that many parents would prefer to have busing to and from St. Benedict’s, even if it results in a small fee for the excursion. We are happy to adjust our plans for next year’s retreat and accommodate this request. Safety is always our number one priority. We love partnering with parents to ensure we have the very best outcome for all of our kids. Thank you for your continued support and open lines of communication.

Parent Council is off to a great start in 2019

There were 8 people around the table working hard for the kids of St. Peter school. Ideally, council approves the minutes via email and they are sent out to the community via Newswire the week following the meeting. Look for those minutes to be coming early in the week. BUT…we had lots of fun at the meeting and there is always room for more voices at the table. The next meeting is Wednesday, February 20th at 6:30PM. Hope to see you there!

Bingo Fun In Our Community

St. Peter CES benefits from the community support delivered to the school through proceeds from Bingo. If you would like to join the BINGO team, you need to be trained. Several of us are taking the training in February. If you would like to join us, please reach out to Mrs. Monteiro and she will get you added to the list. The next training date is February 26th at 3:30PM. We hope you can make it out and support the St. Peter community in this special way.

Inclement Weather Policy

The last week has been quite chilly and some parents were concerned about whether children should be allowed outside. Some other parents raised concerns over students being forced to remain inside. The entire policy is below and I encourage all parents to read it over if desired. Essentially, if the temperature with the windchill is between -15 and -19 degrees Celsius, students may only be allowed outside for a maximum of 20 minutes. Should the temperature with the windchill reach -20 degrees Celsius, students will remain indoors. This policy applies to all students in JK to Grade 8, and all staff and students follow the instructions from the office based on this policy.

Called To Belong Opening Mass February 11th at 4PM~All are Welcome

Our spiritual theme for our pastoral plan is “Called to Belong.” The essence of belonging is acceptance and inclusion. It begins with welcome, but it takes work as a community to make sure everyone feels they are called to belong. This is important work happening at St. Peter, but also at all of our other Catholic Schools as well. We would love for you to attend the opening mass at 4PM at St. Anthony Daniel Parish in Kitchener to celebrate this important work. Our Grade 8s experienced the theme come alive during their Mt. Mary Retreat. We hope you can make it.
