Defender Families:

We are beginning our Lenten Journey this week. Wherever you are on your faith journey, it is always good to have a refresher about what we will be focusing on as community during the next 40 days. Here is a quick video that goes over the meaning and symbols of Lent in 3 minutes. As a community, this has been another challenging year with disruptive lock-downs and frustrating restrictions. When we slow down during Lent and reconnect with the priorities that matter most to us, our well-being and mental health can have a much needed boost. This time of contemplation, reflection and renewal is both deeply personal and experienced as a community as we walk together. Don’t hesitate to take more time for the things that matter for your family during this time as you experience God’s goodness along the way.

Screening Reminder

On March 1st, many community restrictions will be relaxed. Nothing has changed in schools yet, but later this week there are no indoor capacity limits in public places such as churches or restaurants. We are all excited to get back to our favourite gatherings, which makes it even more important than ever to complete the screening and keep your child home if they are not well. Thank you for working together to keep each other safe and healthy.

School Climate Survey

To comply with the Education Act s.169.1(1)(a), (a.1), (a.2) and PPM 145, the WCDSB is required to conduct school climate surveys of students, staff and parents/guardians at least once every two years as they play a key role in contributing to a positive school climate.  The purpose of the school climate survey is to assess the perceptions of safety from all stakeholders (e.g., students, staff, parents/guardians), make informed planning decisions about programs to help prevent bullying and promote safe and inclusive schools, determine the effectiveness of programs on an ongoing basis, and build and sustain a positive school climate.

No personal information will be collected from any participant on the survey (e.g., email).  Therefore, responses from the survey cannot be connected with information already held by the Board in our student information system.

Responses will be combined to create school-level and Board-level reports.

If you have questions about the school climate survey collection, please contact the school office.

Thank you for your consideration in its completion. We value your input, feedback and partnership as we continue to strengthen our school community and support each of our students.
