Advent Begins…

Advent is a time of waiting and preparing. It is about choosing to embrace ideals that shape us into better versions of ourselves and point us toward the most important story that we are a part of. This week we light the candle of Hope. Hope allows us to continue along the journey, despite the challenges and set-backs we face.

Here is a prayer you can use with your family this week as you reflect on Hope.

God of hope

be with us in our Advent journey

to the stable and beyond,

be with us in our meeting

and in our travelling together,

be with us in our worship

and our praying together,

be with us in our Advent journey

to the stable and beyond,

our God of hope.

Advent Giving Project: Santa for Seniors

This year the staff and students of Saint Peter will be collecting various items that our local community is in need of. We are donating to Cambridge Shelter and Saint Luke’s Place.

They are in need of the following items:

  • Small tubes of toothpaste
  • Toothbrushes
  • Deodorant
  • Chapstick
  • Shampoo and Conditioner
  • Facial Tissue
  • Hand Warmers
  • Winter Hats
  • Gloves
  • Socks
  • Soft Chocolate (Mars, Aero etc.)
  • Tim Horton Cards in $5 amounts
  • Dollarama Cards in $5 amounts.

We will be collecting these items until Friday December 13th. Thank you for working with your children to make a difference in the lives of all members of our local community!

Also, staff who are participating in Jeans for December have donated an additional $20 to our community charity fund. If you see our teachers dressed more casually than usual, they are contributing to a good cause and making a real difference in the community. Formal dress will return in January.

A Special Welcome Back To Mrs. Petro

After a brief time away, Mrs. Petro has returned to health and to Saint Peter. We are so glad to have her back in our community!

This Month’s Umbrella Skill…AUTHENTICITY

Authenticity is a skill that supports our community in many ways. When you are truly authentic, you are comfortable with yourself and much more accepting of others. Here are the connections we are working with students to make this month!

Authenticity

  • The quality of being genuine or real
  • Representing your true self instead of what you think others want you to be
  • Staying true to your beliefs
  •  Trustworthiness
  •  Believability and truthfulness
  •  Being comfortable with yourself
  • When your actions match your words and values

Popcorn Thursdays …Students and Staff Love it!

Our grade 8s will selling Popcorn for $1 each Thursday to raise some funds for their graduation. The idea is that the grade 8s take a leadership role in this, so the sales will be cash only and will take place weekly on Thursdays. If you happen to send your child with a dollar, they can enjoy popcorn. If not, they can always enjoy another week. We will be selling the popcorn weekly until Christmas. If it remains popular, we may continue throughout the winter and into the Spring. It will definitely be delicious while it lasts!
