As described in my earlier Newswire, things continue to change at a fast pace. Earlier today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the Nation and specifically spoke to the need to continue Social Distancing. Specifically, he called upon all Canadians to remain at home and only go out if it is absolutely necessary.
A clip of Trudeau’s directive can be found here : http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/1714705987815/
Although our staff is definitely missing our students and Saint Peter families, a parade is not an essential activity such as going to a pharmacy or grocery store. As community leaders, we are called to set the highest example, rather than the minimum compliance, of a life-saving social-distancing policy. Plus, we had already heard that families were interested in travelling to the parade route if it did not pass directly by their house. That could be perceived as organizing a group activity that violates social distancing norms, and puts lives at risk. This decision was not made lightly and was done in consultation with WCDSB’s Senior Administration Team.
But fear not, we WILL have our parade when it is safe to do so. Perhaps it will be the day before we are given permission to learn again in community. Until then, stay safe and stay home unless absolutely necessary to leave your homes.
