So Good to Be Back Together!

It was so great to be back together after the school was closed for several days. I have intentionally limited my communication to ensure updates from the board regarding collective bargaining and closures were received and not drowned out by other non-essential messaging. However, now that we are back to school there are several updates to share.

Here are just a few of the many great moments of learning that have taken place over the last few weeks.

Mrs. Fedy’s classes were doing excellent work in Literacy alongside our system literacy teachers. We are always learning and improving our methods to support our students.

Mrs. Martin’s Class was working with our Math Coach Mr. Villapiana. There was quite the debate over the fair sharing concept when it came to chocolate bars! Mr. V. also presented to our CSAC about the great work our grade 1 students are doing in coding in Mrs. Ribeiro’s class.

Handwriting Club is up and running. Thank you to Mr. G for leading that lunchtime club!

Mrs. Connelly has been working with various classes supporting Emotional Literacy. We are so lucky to have her on our team!

Our CSAC has been meeting regularly and we are up to 17 people! They are always trying to enhance the experience of all of our students and we are grateful for their support. They alternate between face to face and Virtual meetings. If you have any feedback you want them to share or would like to participate and volunteer, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Bree Almeida our CSAC chair at

Our Halloween Parade of Learning was so much Fun! Thank you to the families that were able to make it to learn about the strategies that we are using to support your children in the classroom. Plus the cute costumes were amazing! Also a HUGE SHOUT OUT to our teacher presenters who are used to presenting to little people. We appreciate and value your work!

Save the Dates!

Our Christmas Concert is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, December 22nd. More details to follow, but we are looking forward to gathering as a community at St. Benedict’s.

Earlier in the week we plan on having a Defender Family Christmas Celebration on December 19th. During the day the students will receive a FREE Turkey Dinner paid for by CSAC. Thank you to our Bingo Volunteers…your work is literally feeding our whole community!

Later that evening on December 19th, our school will be open for families to drop in any time between 5 and 7 PM to participate in some Christmas Activities and your family can Get a Selfie with Santa! Our goal is to have a low pressure event with a small time commitment where you have the opportunity to  drop in, have fun with your family, connect with people in this great community and make some memories with your kids. We hope to see you there!

Dental Screening and Ventilation Report

We have a Dental Screening that will take place on November 28th. A Formal Notice from public health is here. In a nutshell, public health is providing this service for free and supporting all grades except grades 1 and grades 5. If your child is in Grade 1 or grade 5, you can still have them screened but you will need to request for them to be added. Conversely, if you would like to opt your child out, you need to contact public health.

At the end of October a ventilation report was sent to me. It can be found on the board website, but we were asked to share it with our community. Here is a copy of the report.

MacMillan’s Fundraiser

Last week our CSAC sent out the paper copy of the fundraising letter and the MacMillan Catalogue. Thank you for partnering with us in this Fundraiser. All purchases must be made through School Cash Online.
